Preparing For A Wealth And Power Shift To Women
Women are taking control of more wealth, and it helps advisors to understand their experience and motivations. By Tracey Longo
AS WOMEN INCREASINGLY TAKE THE REINS OF American wealth, financial advisors face both a profound challenge and a unique opportunity— in learning how to serve this powerful and expanding demographic with the nuance, empathy and insight women demand.
By 2030, women are expected to control more than half of the nation’ s wealth, an unprecedented shift that is already reshaping the financial services industry and the way women advisors do business.
This emerging transformation— and how advisors can position themselves to meet it— was at the forefront of a panel discussion at Financial Advisor magazine’ s 10th annual Invest in Women conference, held in Boston in April. The consensus on one panel was clear: Adapting to the needs of women investors is not optional— it’ s essential to serving the emerging powerhouse demographic.
“ Parity is power,” said Laurie Stack, regional vice president at Avantax and head of its Avantax Women’ s Advisor Forum.“ It’ s a business imperative that must be embraced by everyone— men and women alike. We must ensure that women are positioned to make financial decisions that support their long-term success.”
Indeed, by 2045, an estimated $ 85 trillion in wealth will be transferred through inheritance, with women set to control nearly 70 % of that wealth. This shift is not simply the result of inheritance( though widows and beneficiaries will play a significant role). It also reflects the rise of women as primary breadwinners, executives, entrepreneurs and wealth creators in their own right.
Stack and other industry experts discussed these topics during a panel discussion called“ The Transfer of Wealth to Women: Preparing for a Financial Power Shift.”
